Celebration of Happiness (33) – Ceili dancing (Ireland)

Ceili Dancing

"Express Yourself Physically!"

Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening and live like there is no tomorrow! Dance is a poem of which each movement is a word, which many people feel shy to recite.

Ceili dancing is a traditional folk dance form of Ireland. Enjoyed all over the country in social gatherings and public events, Ceili dance is one of the most celebrated activities in the country with many competitions and stage performance being held each year. People dance in 2s or more and as the saying goes, the more the merrier. People join in the dancing the groups and leave behind their worries and their burdens and celebrate the happy feeling that dancing brings to them.

The history of Ceili dance can be dated to as old as the 1500s. It is such a celebrated activity in the country that it is said that when the British banned public dancing in Ireland, people closed their doors and danced their hearts out. Also, the form of dancing with hands and back straight and only moving the legs and feet also evolved because of the ban. After the ban was lifted, people started enjoying the tradition once again and today the Ceili dance has become one of the most recognizable cultural heritages of Ireland.

Let Your Body Do The Talking!

Every once in awhile, one must let loose and liberate themselves of the stress, tensions and the pressures of the outer world and shut them all out. At this moment, immerse your soul in dancing and enjoy the relaxation and relief it brings to your body and your mind.
