Celebration of Happiness (47) – Crop Over (Barbados, Lesser Antilles)

Crop Over

"Recognize And Celebrate Your Accomplishments!"

To celebrate the fruits of one’s labor is a rare chance that not many get. People live their entire lives toiling and working hard but fail to appreciate and enjoy what they achieve out of all the labor.

Barbados is the world’s largest producer of sugarcane and to mark the end of the harvest of the crop that is the biggest supporter of the economy of the country, there happens a month long festival known as the crop over festival the last day of which is known as the Grand Kadooment Day. It marks the end of the festival, which is in celebration of the reaping of the fruits of their hard work.

The Crop Over Festival has its roots in the colonial times and ever since then the country has continued to carry the tradition forward to celebrate the end of their working period, their hard labor and to enjoy the fruits of their hard work. The last day of the festival is the most awaited one as the entire nation immerses itself in merry making, dancing, music and colorful attires. The streets get filled with swamps of people in beautiful, colorful clothes, singing and dancing to the tunes of the local music with the main feature of the event being calypso. It's party time at national level which even the dullest of souls will not be able to avoid.

Savour The Fruits Of Your Labour!

Acknowledgement and self appreciation is greater than any reward you could give to yourself. Praise what you have achieved and pat your own back for all the hard work and labor you do. Appreciate what you have won and how far you have come from where you started. It is not only motivating but satisfying too and is good for your sense of purpose as well.
